When to go

Lymington shines in the summer months when alfresco activities are at their most appealing, and events such as the town’s seafood festival dot the calendar.

Getting there

  • Planes

Bournemouth and Southampton’s international airports are each a 40-minute drive from this Hampshire outpost. Of the London hubs, Heathrow is nearest (90 minutes away by road), and Gatwick is still only a two-hour drive from Lymington.
  • Trains

There are several services daily to Lymington Town and Lymington Pier from Bournemouth, Southampton and London; all rail routes require a change at Brockenhurst.
  • Automobiles

You’ll want your own set of wheels – coastal paths, New Forest trails, sandy beaches and wishlist Hampshire sites, such as Hurst Castle and Beaulieu, are all a 20-minute drive away. Plus, you can take your car on the 40-minute ferry from Lymington to Yarmouth, on the Isle of Wight.
