Luxury holidays in Quindio

A swirl of vivid greens, Colombia’s Quindío department’s leafy lushness has made it the coffee-growing axis of the country. It’s more obsessed than the hipster bro in your local coffee-house, to the point where its received a Unesco World Heritage designation and become home to the National Coffee Park. But, there’s more buzz to be found here than at the bottom of a mug – fine wines also thrive here, and towns such as Montenegro, Salento and Filandia have buildings with many paint coats of color. And, when you’ve stopped vibrating, it’s really very relaxing, with gentle horse rides, verdant hikes and jungly terrain to explore.

When to go

December to March are the region’s drier months – arrive earlier in the year to catch the tail-end of harvesting season.

Getting there

  • Planes

Armenia’s El Edén International or Pereira Airport both serve the region, with limited but direct links to Central and North America.
  • Automobiles

Amid acres of farmland, small towns are spaced out, and you come here for the remoteness of it all, so a car will be very useful indeed.
