Moss green hills, cobbled streets and yachts bobbing on a cerulean lake – it’s little wonder that Valle de Bravo is a favourite among Mexico City’s elite. In fact, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to say that the lakeside town was the country’s equivalent to Como – with one key difference: unlike its Italian counterpart, Valle de Bravo remains one of the country’s best-kept secrets, keeping it off the tourist trail. Instead of chain restaurants and superstores, you’ll find markets piled high with local produce, streetside vendors cooking traditional snacks, and a smattering of gourmet eateries and art galleries. Charm aside, Valle De Bravo also offers pursuits for the sporty in spades. Daredevil visitors can soar high over the lake on paragliders, or stick to the surface on kayaks, paddleboards and water skis. If you prefer to stay dry, take to the pine-studded hills for a spot of hiking, horse riding or mountain biking instead.
