Luxury holidays in Lana

Lana sits on the doorstep of the Dolomites and its Austria-adjacent setting adds Alpine magic to this mediaeval market town. Crumbling chapels, candle-lit taverns and Brothers Grimm-esque castles are orbited by snowy summits. Come summer, the sweeping scenery is showered in wildflowers and apple blossoms (Lana’s orchards are its fruity claim to fame). Drink in more than just panoramic views on your hillside hikes or stylish ski outings: Lana is also home to a blossoming viticulture scene.

Getting there

  • Planes

Innsbruck airport is two-and-a-half hours’ away by car. Bolzano airport is only a 20-minute drive away, but only services domestic or European flights (flights from the UK will have a stop-over).
  • Trains

The nearest train station is Merano, which is a 10-minute drive away. Rail services run from here to Innsbruck, Verona and Venice, plus more distant destinations such as Paris and Frankfurt.
  • Automobiles

A car isn’t necessary for Lana itself: there are pedestrian-only zones and the town offers overnight guests a free public-transport pass. That said, a car is useful for exploring further afield (Lake Garda is a 90-minute drive away and Verona and Venice are under three hours away).
