When to go

In summer (May to August) the quiet roads get a little busier and the tea rooms more packed, so try to aim for late spring or early autumn to avoid the crowds. Weekends tend to be the busiest, too. Christmas is quieter, but amiable for cosy festive breaks.

    Swindon station, a 40-minute drive away, is the closest. Direct trains arrive in around an hour from London Paddington, Cardiff, Bristol, and Oxford.

    With limited village bus services and the greenest and loveliest bits set far away from stations, a car is essential for exploring the Cotswolds’ honey-hued hamlets.
