SANTA MONICA: Sales manager
Salary DOE

The sales manager will report directly to the chief commercial officer, working alongside the travel-operations manager and the regional hotel-partnerships manager to deliver the best customer experience in the world. The primary focus will be the performance and management of the global sales team. 

The successful applicant will come from a luxury-sales background within the travel industry, will be comfortable in a dynamic environment and will always maintain a friendly and positive disposition. The sales manager will grow offline-sales revenue, optimising the performance of the team and be comfortable working in a target-driven environment.

Skills and experience

  • Ten or more years of senior sales experience, with at least five years of management experience
  • A self-motivated and target oriented personality
  • An unrelenting focus on growth
  • Experience managing a sales team in a digital environment
  • A strong commercial background, in both an online and offline environments
  • Expertise in training, development and embedding sales techniques into luxury-sales teams
  • Expertise in using data and systems to drive decisions, and an analytical ability to report on key sales metrics


  • Developing offline strategy, tactics, sales plans and profit targets for the sales team in conjunction with the CCO and other sales managers
  • Working with senior commercial leadership to optimise the global workforce and prioritise initiatives based on customer-led segmentation metrics
  • Working very closely with the hotels and marketing teams to ensure we have the best hotels and the best offers as customer demand dictates
  • Working within the Smith24 team to ensure sales and support teams are working together to provide an enjoyable working environment and brilliant customer experiences
  • Joining the rest of the team on the phones and setting the standard for sales performance

Operations Consultant

Mr & Mrs Smith is on the hunt for an enthusiastic, efficient and organized Operations Consultant to join our brand new team in Los Angeles.  

You will report directly to the Operations Team Managers and be responsible for the ongoing support of the commercial team, our customers, partners and hotels. This is a multi-faceted role, but primarily concerned with managing after-sales queries, hotel setup and administrative requests. Above all, Smith team members must embrace the Smith culture and bring positive energy to the team.

Main responsibilities:

  • Be the first point of contact for all customers, hoteliers and external parties, capable of handling multiple queries simultaneously via phone, email, live chat and social forums with flair and personality.
  • Maintain company standard service levels by responding to all interactions with both clients and hotels in a timely and effective manner.
  • Act as key point of contact for all after-sales and membership queries.
  • Work alongside Smiths Hoteliers to present their properties to the highest possible standard on Mr & Mrs Smith websites, including: training them on Smith Systems, connecting them with third-party systems such as channel managers and ensuring all properties on-site are in full compliance with the Smith terms and conditions.
  • Work closely with our expert team of travel specialists to resolve ‘barriers to book’ that relate to anything operational, commercial or technical.
  • Manage the complaints process, ensuring Smith always puts the customer at the forefront of their decision making process.
  • Build strong inter-departmental relationships with marketing, technology and sales teams.
  • Proactively selling Smith Memberships, gift vouchers and administering member loyalty money.
  • Where required, fill the sales role and assisting prospective customers with their travel queries; completing the booking process end-to-end at the level expected of a Smith consultant.



  • Must have the capability to work within a travel environment, liaising with both local and international travelers and partners and traveling occasionally
  • Must be able to work on a full-time basis on a rotating shift incorporating seven days per week from 7am to midnight
  • Ability to work under pressure, tight deadlines and targets
  • Highly organised, efficient and holding a high level of technical competency including administrative skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, with strong written and spoken communication skills
  • Mature outlook with a professional attitude and a team-orientated approach
  • Ability to analyse and resolve difficult situations diplomatically
  • Experience working in front office operations at a hotel or sales at a travel agency (highly beneficial, but not essential)
  • Fluency in other languages including, but not limited to Spanish, Italian, and French (beneficial, but not essential)
  • Must have a valid U.S. work permit

Travel Consultant

Mr & Mrs Smith is on the lookout for an experienced travel planner to join our sales team in Los Angeles.

You'll be a consummate hotel and luxury travel geek, have the skills to turn around a high volume of enquiries via phone/email/webchat/social media/on request forms, while providing exceptional travel inspiration and impeccable service.

You will need:

  • Experience working to sales targets (travel-related is ideal, but not essential)
  • Extensive travel experience, ideally with time spent living overseas
  • Excellent rapport-building skills and a strong track record of customer interaction
  • An understanding of the consumer lifestyle in regards to luxury and style
  • Meticulous attention to detail and administrative skills
  • An ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and targets

Internships at Mr & Mrs Smith

Mr & Mrs Smith is on the hunt for switched-on interns to assist our small yet dynamic team in New York. We’re always keen to hear from enthusiastic students and graduates who have an interest in travel and are looking to break into the fields of marketing, PR, journalism and publishing.

Placements are currently available in the following departments:

PR & Marketing
We’re looking for a motivated intern to work with us on a full-time placement for a minimum of two months. This exciting role will involve working closely with our marketing and PR departments and would best suit someone with stellar written and verbal communication skills. Tasks will include compiling press clippings, sourcing images for the web and print features and general travel industry research. You will also assist with ongoing projects involving our brand partnerships, including our high-profile promotions, eDM campaigns and product launches.

The search is on for a savvy intern with a flair for writing and web-based publishing to assist our editorial department. This placement is available ideally for five days a week, over two to three months, and will offer a great introduction to the world of boutique hotels, travel writing and both print and online editing. You’ll assist our team with a variety of tasks, including researching and fact-checking insider travel content, providing administrative support and writing short pieces for press and our award-winning website. An English, journalism or communications degree would be highly beneficial, as would familiarity with WordPress or similar software.
